Piano Math
Math is very important for pianos. It's used for playing, tuning and building. See, much of the piano is about math.
When you have to build a piano, a lot of math goes into it. You have to count the number of keys to make sure you don't have too few or too many. Otherwise you won't have enough different pitches for every key. You also have to make sure that it's the correct size and shape or else the sound won't vibrate properly.
You also need math to keep it in tune. The tuner has to be able to calculate how much to tighten or loosen the strings. They also have to be able to figure out how far out of tune it is.
Math is also needed when you install the damper pedal. It has to be able to hold up all the hammers. It must also be able to keep the strings vibrating until the player lets go of the pedal.
When you're playing the piano, or any instrument for that matter, the beat has to be steady. To help the person playing the instrument you can use a metronome. The device has to be able to light up or tick in a steady rhythm. It also has to be able to tap out the correct number of beats per minute at every setting. Otherwise the counting and timing will be off.
As you see, math is very important for pianos.
