School Participation
Encourage kids to have fun with math at home this summer!
The easiest way to participate is to have students submit their individual entry online at home with their families. This also gives children an opportunity to check out some the other math ideas and resources posted online. Students can work on their idea in class or at home.
Alternatively, teachers may also choose to enter one entry as a class. This makes a great year-end activity and encourages students to keep up their math skills over the summer.
How can teachers can encourage students to participate?
- Send home information with students on the contest in a handout or newsletter.
- Create an assignment for students to come up with their own description of how they use math in an activity outside of school. Provide students with the information to enter the contest on their own at home.
- Send home reminder contest information with final report cards to encourage students to keep learning during the summer.
- Turn your last math class of the school year into a brainstorming session for creative uses of math in activities outside of school.
- Check out the contest website as a class in your school computer lab.
- Enter together on your class computer or in your lab.
- Make an announcement about the contest at your Parent Advisory Meeting.
- Put up the poster at your school (color or black and white).
- Post the contest and information on your school's website.
- E-mail parents contest information.
