My goal is to make math fun and inspire an interest in learning. If your child gets the basics down early they will have the confidence and interest to do well in math (as well as anything else they choose). You just need to keep it exciting through a variety of teaching methods such as manipulatives, music, games, and worksheets. These worksheets passed the kid test of "not being boring."
